Blue Massachusetts and Better Democrats

34% of Needham's registered voters are Democrats (2010).
This Boston Globe article has a great graphic and town by town breakdown of registered Democrats: Snapshot: Democrats as percent of voters 2010 - Boston.com

With a state this blue, why don't we have universal health care (not just mandated health insurance)? Why do we have regressive state taxes? Why is the legislature voting against union bargaining rights?

There are differences between Democrats, and we need more progressive Democrats in the state legislature, to break the power of the Speaker, to pass legislation to make Massachusetts policy as progressive as its people. (This is one of the central missions of Progressive Massachusetts)

(Yes, I realize that "registered Democrats" and "progressive" are two different things. I'm making a leap, and I feel confident about it! (as well as self-aware of it) ;) )
